Head of Applied Research – West Sussex

The Role:-

Our client is searching for an exceptional candidate to join the company as Head of Applied Research.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident technical specialist with strong knowledge of information management and exploitation, architecture and applications, to lead our high profile Applied Research Team.

The successful applicant will be highly motivated to lead at an operational and strategic level, alongside Senior Management and Stakeholders. Their background will include established computer or data science expertise, (especially in the exploitation of data where space and time are critical attributes), complimented with experience of building and leading a research oriented team.

 

Desire to lead and build a research team; with minimum of 5 years management experience

Minimum 10 years of experience in a research context within the computer science domain

Knowledge of related industry standards

Excellent writing, communication and public speaking skills

Advanced degree in related field (Masters or PhD)

Experience developing sales proposals or client services highly desirable

 

Responsibilities:-

 

Team Leadership

Provide leadership of the Applied Research Department providing guidance, instruction and direction.

Provide staff management, career development, mentoring and coaching to allocated staff.

Monitor and report on Applied Research Team performance measurements.

 

Client Focus

Provide advice and expertise to customers on technologies, strategy and applications.

Participate in bid preparation, helping define the scope and identify risks as well as providing technical leadership and coordination of requirements.

Work closely and collaborate with the sales Department to identify and win business from new and existing customer relationships. Develop solutions based on products and technologies of Envitia and its partners.

 

Knowledge Focus

Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant technologies, standards, specifications and industry trends especially in application of machine learning and AI to data analytics.

Undertake the analysis of technical documentation including research papers / standards / software and producing summary reports, comment, conclusions and proposed actions for customers.

Write and present technical papers at relevant conferences and support thought leadership.

 

Project Focus:

Provide technical and domain input to project and product proposals.

Support the planning, risk management and delivery of projects.

Act as technical authority for the delivery of projects, providing leadership and guidance.

Responsible for analysing customer requirement, and work with Technical Authorities to enhance and evolve the company’s products and technologies.

 

Must be able to achieve security clearance to DV level
