GIS Remote Sensing Team Leader Birmingham

Our client is one of Europe’s leading providers of independent research derived from the analysis of satellite imagery, delivering these differentiated insights as investment research to the finance sector, as business intelligence for corporate clients and providing loss estimation and claims analysis services for the insurance industry. In order to further develop their market-disrupting products and services they are recruiting for an experienced Remote Sensing Technician to join the team of industry experts.

 

Role Summary:

As the GIS team leader, you will oversee the technical work conducted by the production team. You will ensure the team is informed, organised and producing outputs that are of the highest standards.  You will also utilise your own GIS / Remote Sensing skillset to support the team in identifying, sourcing, processing and analysing the data that under-pin our products and services and keeps them at the forefront of the geospatial intelligence sector. You will also play a crucial role in driving the production of their Crude Oil Intelligence products.

 

Principle Responsibilities:

Organising the technical work of the production team under the direction of the project manager.

Quality Assurance of the production team’s outputs.

Image / Data acquisition, cleansing and processing.

Image interpretation and analysis

Take ownership of data management, storage and delivery to clients.

Report writing.

Collaborating with both UK and International partners.

 

Essential Abilities & Knowledge:

You will have a background in Remote Sensing and/or GIS with commercial experience of leading a technical team. Candidates with experience of leading GIS production teams are preferred but those with equivalent experience in an alternative technical domain will also be considered.

 

Key requirements for the role are:

Proven track record of leading a production team.

The drive to take ownership of your teams work and continually achieve high quality outputs.

Demonstrable experience of utilising Remote Sensing / GIS in a commercial environment.

A strong technical background, with a keen interest in developing new methodologies to solve complex spatial problems.

A high level of competence in image processing using one of the main raster GIS packages, such as ERDAS Imagine.

A high level of skill in one of the main vector GIS tools, such as QGIS or ArcGIS.

A good understanding of statistical analysis techniques preferable.

Excellent communication skill, both written and verbal, is essential.

Excellent report writing and documentation skills.

Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Willingness to work across a broad range of topics including Oil and gas, Agriculture, Environmental monitoring and Insurance.

Highly organised with experience of handling large datasets.
