Petrotechnical Data Analyst

 
Purpose of the Role:
Reporting directly to the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst, the primary function of the Petrotechnical Data Analyst II role is to further develop and utilise intermediate level skills and awareness aimed at providing technical teams with access to high quality data, information and support and to ensure petrotechnical data, supporting processes and systems meet the governance criteria as defined by the Data & Analytics Manager and Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst.
 
Principle Duties:
 
Petrotechnical Data and Application Services 
Provide proactive foundation and intermediate level support to the users of petrotechnical data and applications and shadow experienced Data Management (DM) personnel when they provide advanced level support. 
Utilise time management and prioritisation skills to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner. 
Work collaboratively with the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst to ensure support requests are screened, prioritised and resolved efficiently. 
Liaise with the Data Integration Specialist and Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst to ensure the efficiency of petrotechnical application infrastructure and automated data flow processes. 
Participate in regular reporting and communication with the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst and Data & Analytics Manager to ensure clarity in targets and resolution of issues. 
Keep up to date with developments in petrotechnical DM, well and seismic data acquisition and processing and assist in the planning and deployment of technical applications, systems and software upgrades. 
Automate or batch process simple tasks using coding and data integration utilities. 
Monitor petrotechnical application usage and promote further use of those applications across the business. 
Undertake any other tasks required by the Data & Analytics Manager or Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst. 
 
Petrotechnical Data Lifecycle Management 
Process the receipt and transmittal of petrotechnical data (primarily well and seismic related) to and from the organisation with the assistance of the wider business as required. 
Participate in the cataloguing of petrotechnical data in accordance with DM governance. 
Load petrotechnical data to corporate repositories and a variety of applications. 
Distribute petrotechnical data by assisting with the transformation of data to different formats and transposition of datasets between technical applications and corporate data stores. 
Assist with cataloguing, synchronisation and publishing of user generated petrotechnical data.
 
Petrotechnical Data Quality Management 
Adhere to DM governance as applied to petrotechnical data. 
Produce detailed work instructions for the management and handling of petrotechnical data for review by the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst and Data & Analytics Manager and provide feedback to enhance DM governance. 
Identify and remedy simple and complex petrotechnical data errors with a focus on seismic surveys and wells. 
Assist experienced DM personnel with internal geodetic QC and liaise with 3rd parties as required. 
 
Petrotechnical Data Security Management 
Understand and adhere to data confidentiality and rights management while handling petrotechnical data. 
 Review and report problems with the security of corporate data stores to the Lead Petrotechnical  Data Analyst, ensure that data added to these stores is secured in accordance with DM governance. 
Assist with the setup and support of datarooms and other external visits with a focus on ensuring data security and integrity throughout. 
Petrotechnical Reference & Master Data Management 
Ensure that petrotechnical data loaded to corporate stores is populated with correct metadata and where necessary, appropriately tagged. 
Proactively find and correct issues with petrotechnical data corporate stores and applications.
 
Required skills/Experience/Education
 
Education: 
Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in geoscience or a computer science discipline.
 
Essential:
Expert user of petrotechnical applications including some or all of the following; Petrel, Techlog, GeoTeric, Paleoscan, Rokdoc. 
Significant experience working on petrotechnical data, services and projects in E&P or a relevant industry. 
Advanced skills working with and manipulating various petrotechnical data types including well, seismic and geospatial data. 
Experience of workflows and data handling throughout the E&P data lifecycle including loading data to petrotechnical applications. 
Excellent communication, teamwork skills and exemplary attention to detail. 
Advanced skills working with and manipulating various petrotechnical data types including well, seismic and geospatial data. 
Experience with data visualisation and analytics, including usage of PowerBI, Logi or Spotfire. 
Excellent communication, teamwork skills and exemplary attention to detail. 
Advanced numeracy, analytical and computer skills, notably MS Excel and SQL. 
Experience with enterprise GIS technologies. 
Experience using desktop GIS and data manipulation software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GRASS, FME, Pentaho, Data Integration, Tibco DV.
 
Advantageous: 
Experience with backup and archiving technologies including magnetic tapes, distributed file systems and cloud storage. 
Experience with Studio for Petrel and Petrel Reference Project management.
Experience with the retrieval, manipulation and submission of data using APIs, web scraping and database queries. 
User of petrotechnical applications including some or all of the following; Petrel, Techlog, GeoTeric, Paleoscan, Rokdoc. 
Experience with Studio for Petrel and Petrel Reference Project management (highly desirable). 
Programming and development skills, e.g. Javascript, Powershell, Python, ArcPy, VBA, .NET. 
 
Desirable:
Experience of using petrotechnical data in E&P projects. 
Experience in the usage and administration of UNIX/Linux systems. 
Working knowledge of enterprise storage and networking solutions.
